John Rains races his 89 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo Coupe in D/BGC at the SCTA World Finals at Bonneville Speedway. This run is the first part of a class record previously held at 265. This run was a stout 284.909 MPH and was done on 22 PSI of boost. The 274 Cubic Inch V6 which was built by Ken Duttweiler features twin turbos, icewater to air aftercooler and Water Injection. The engine uses racing gasoline and is controlled by a MoTeC M8 Engine Management System and CDI-8 Ignition box which were calibrated by Shane Tecklenburg (Tuned By Shane T)

In Australia we had a road racing (open wheeler) series called “Formula Holden” which was similar to Formula 3000 but powered by Holden (Buick) V6 engines.
The series is currently not active. The engines were prepared largely by Perkins Engineering (Larry Perkins ex F1, ex Bathurst 1000) here in Melbourne, Australia.
The engines were basically “bullet proof”
Some of these engines ended up in Modified Eliminator dragsters too.
